Public Relations Tip #51 - Public Relations and Your Neighbors

Here's a quickie you might not have thought of ...

Your neighbors and your public relations ...

I have a neighbor who owns a bank here. He also owns 300 acres beside our neighborhood. He's a miserable old miser who goes around our neighborhood looking for things and people he can interfere with. He cruises our street every morning real slow looking at everything like he owns it.

He doesn't. And it grates my nerves every time I see him ...

Obviously, he has both a terminal Napoleonic Complex and huge inferiority complex.

Instead of blessing people with his considerable resources and being a 'good neighbor' - the old coot is the neighbor everyone loves to hate and talk bad about.

How many people in this neighborhood would now be customers of his bank?

Answer: zero.

So by his being the King - and him treating everyone like we're mere serfs in his fiefdom - he has hurt his own bank he doesn't even run any more (his son now runs it, of course.)

So - be a good neighbor.

Neighbors talk. You can have a good reputation in your neighborhood - or a bad one - which can help or hurt your public relations and your business a lot more than you think it can.

People these days seem to be a lot quicker to spread bad news about people than good news. (Perhaps it's because there seems to be more bad news than good news to go around.)

The worst part is when you cause it yourself - and you deserve it.
